One of my goals is to share reliable and accurate information. I want to encourage you to explore topics, question, challenge and learn about ways in which you can make informed choices that will create positive change to improve your life, and the lives of those you care about.

I love reading, so a lot of my resources tend to be books! Many are also available in audio format though and I'm trying to include more podcasts and other platforms.

Changing and creating habits

I absolutely LOVE these books and could wax lyrical about them for ages. The first 2 compliment each other really well.

Tiny Habits 'the small habits that change everything' by B J Fogg who has spent over 20 years researching and teaching insights about human behaviour, and runs the 'Behavior Design Lab' at Standford University.

Atomic Habits, by James Clear (I recommend signing up for his short weekly 3-2-1 newsletter) offers a practical guide on creating good habits, breaking bad ones, focussing on getting 1% better every day.

The Miracle Morning, by Hal Elrod. This is more of a suggested routine designed to help you become more productive; remember though that it is flexible and doesn't necessily mean you need to get out of bed at 5am every day (although many of its advocates do just that!)

Food & Nutrition

Zoe Podcasts - Hosted by ZOE CEO Jonathan Wolf. The world's top scientists explain the latest health, nutrition, and gut health research in an accessible way to help you improve your weight and health. Includes longer full-length podcasts as well as some shorter bite-sited topics, they help to explore and answer popular myths and answer frequently asked questions.

Tim Spektor - as a starting point, I'd highly recommend reading his book 'The Diet Myth'. It explores questions such as: Why do most diets fail? Why does one person eat a certain meal and gain weight, while another eating the same meal loses pounds? Why, despite all the advice about what to eat, are we all still getting fatter?

Dr Chris & Xand (your kids might know them from their series 'Operation Ouch!') - they explore if people can change and how they do it, and also discuss the impact of comsuming ultra-process foods. Fascinating to listen to - check out their PodCast series A Thorough Examination

Why We Eat (too much) is written by Dr Andrew Jenkinson, a British bariatric surgeon who uses his patients own experiences of failed weight loss, mixes them with emerging science and leads you on a rollercoaster ride through metabolism, evolution, tasty food and suspect research to finally try and unlock the secrets to beating obesity. An excellent and really thought-provoking read.

Jessie Inchauspé aka The Glucose Goddess is a French biochemist. In her book, The Glucose Revolution, she explains why you should care, why it impacts every aspect of our lives, from cravings to fertility to type 2 diabetes, and provides 10 science-based hacks to manage it. I did find this a little prescriptive, since we all react differently to food, but still worth dipping into.

Lifestyle

Alcohol Explained by William Porter (also available as an audiobook) - explains how alcohol affects human beings on a chemical, physiological and psycohological level. Despite being scientic and factual in nature it's written in an accessible and easy to understand way. Nictotine Explained is in the same vein, written by the same author.

Stop Drinking Now and Stop Smoking by Allan Carr (his website also contains Top 10 tips to Stop Smoking and Top 10 tips to Stop Drinking in addition to details about his 'Easy Way' programme)

The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober by Catherine Gray includes some startling insights and tips as well as a short list of her favourite blogs and instagram heros.
